It isn’t easy to transform the office into an environmentally-friendly green office. It’s busy, there is a lot of paper and other recyclable waste like ink cartridges, user manuals and shipping products being thrown by the wayside. But there are a few easy ways to help transition to a green office while still getting the job done.
AmeriSouth Recycling is committed to recycling and spreading new, and often easy, ways to help you do good for the environment. Here are a few easy tricks you can do at work to create a greener, more environmentally-friendly office.
Reduce or Eliminate Paper Usage
Sounds like an impossible task at the office, doesn’t it? While eliminating paper altogether from the work environment is daunting, limiting its usage is not. Don’t short yourself on any information you need to print, but consider printing on both sides of the paper. This is as simple as setting the auto settings to do so every time you print.
Be sure to reuse, or even better, recycle whatever you don’t use. That goes for every little shred or crumpled ball you missed trying to make a shot. Cut up unused paper into squares for notes, or even donate paper to public schools or libraries for arts and crafts. Don’t forget to use Google Drive, email, or other document sharing apps instead of memos for sharing. Every piece of paper saved goes a long way.
Think about it. When you leave your house, don’t you usually check to make sure all the lights and are appliances are off? Now, how many times do you do that at the office?
Conserving energy in the office is easy! Turn off lights in the conference room when you leave, use CFL, LED or other environmentally-friendly light bulbs and open the curtains and let the sun shine in whenever possible. When leaving the office for the day or stepping out at lunch, turn your computer off or put it in sleep mode.
Speaking of computers, they are recyclable, too. So are printers and ink cartridges. There are plenty of simple things everyone in the office can do that will lead to a lot of energy saved.
Bring in Some Greenery
It only seems right to fill your new green office space with plenty of plants for some calming, pleasant scenery. But they serve a purpose, too.
Plants offset volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and CO2 that impact indoor air quality. In essence, these green plants help make the office greener by offsetting some pollutants in the air.
Be sure to save those coffee grounds. They are perfect for using to add nutrients your plants need. Simply recycle the coffee grounds by putting them in your plant’s soil and make them more vibrant and fresh. We aren’t the only ones who need our cup of coffee in the morning.
