Amerisouth Recycling: Local recycling drives you can join

Atlanta is a booming city, and that often means a lot of unnecessary waste and pollutants entering the environment. Between the daily commute of the millions of Atlanta residents and abundance of businesses plowing through paper and plastic on a daily basis, it is important to try and conserve what we can.

AmeriSouth Recycling is committed to recycling and spreading new, and often easy, ways to help you do good for the environment. Below are a few local recycling drives around Atlanta that you can bring your recyclables to and help create a greener environment.

Recycle Your Old Electronics

In 2018, it seems everyone has some sort of electronic device on them whether in their pocket, in their car, at home or in the office. Many electronic devices are made with unfriendly toxic or heavier plastic or metal material that don’t decompose easily.

Luckily, there are several places in Atlanta that make it possible for you to recycle them in an environmentally safe way. Keep Atlanta Beautiful has been recycling electronics in the Atlanta area since 2008, with convenient locations in Buckhead and Old Fourth Ward to drop off your old and unused devices. They aren’t alone, E-Recycle USA and even stores like Staples will take everything from computers to CDs.

Don’t dump those old computers, hard drives, disks or printers just anywhere. Get them into the hands of people that know how to recycle and reuse them in a way to protect our environment.

What To Do with those Old Tires?

How many cars and trucks do you pass on a daily basis on your Atlanta commute? Ever wonder what happens to all those tires you see on the shoulders when they are no longer useable?

Not only is scraping old tires bad for the environment and public health in general, it is illegal in many of the surrounding Atlanta areas. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

Atlanta offers two free scrap drives for tires, one before the summer and one in the fall. Take as many tires you can find and the participating companies will take them off your hands at no charge and dispose of them correctly. You can also take them to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division who will be able to take care of any old tire scraps for you.

Live a CHaRM-ed Life

What is CHaRM? Simply put, it stands for The Center for Hard to Recycle Materials. They take the worry out of recycling for you and take pretty much any household item you may think is hazardous to the health of our environment. Instead of dumping waste in landfills, dumps or water systems, look into CHaRM through the LiveThrive Atlanta organization.

Whether it is old paint, bulky plastic, styrofoam, or hazardous metal, CHaRM and LiveThrive Atlanta will help you get your unwanted waste out of your hands and more importantly, out of the environment for a cleaner, better future.
