America Recycles Day, a Keep America Beautiful initiative, is November 15th and individuals across America will join in the pledge to recycle more. By joining the movement, individuals will pledge to learn more about what materials are collected for recycling in their community and work to reduce the amount of waste they produce. It’s also encouraged to buy more products with recycled content.
Whether you’re attending a local event or encouraging a family member to recycle more, there are a lot of things you can do to celebrate Recycling Day. Here are some of our best tips!
Attend an Event or Start your Own Event!
This November 15th, thousands of communities across the country participate by promoting environmental citizenship and taking action to increase and improve recycling in America. There are lots of ways to join in on the fun. You can browse the events that are taking place across the United States or register your own event at https://americarecyclesday.org/events/.
There are a lot of ways to get into the recycling spirit, like arranging a community swap meet, making crafts from recycled items, and collecting and donating items to your local charity.
Take the Pledge
In 2018, individuals across the country pledged to recycle plastic bags, shampoo bottles, unwanted mail, mobile devices and more. You can celebrate recycling day this November 15th by taking the pledge to recycle more. By taking the pledge, you’ll commit to finding out what materials are collected for recycling in your community and work to reduce the amount of waste you produce. Share your pledge on social with the #BeRecycled pledge hashtag to encourage your friends and family to recycle more!
In the spirit of Recycling Day, why not collect recyclables like newspapers, soda cans, bottles, and other recyclable items to take to your local recycling center? Don’t just save up your own – offer to collect your friends and family members as well.
Education is Key
Go beyond learning to recycling paper and plastic. Education is key when it comes to reducing the amount of waste you produce. Learn how you can recycle batteries, cell phones, and other electronic things legally. Read your local requirements for these items and ask your local recycling center for more information.
Go Beyond Recycling Day: Make Recycling a Habit!
Just because Recycling Day is celebrated on November 15th doesn’t mean it should be forgotten the rest of the year. Make recycling the norm in your household and at work. Little steps can add up and make a big impact. Use reusable bags, opt for glass instead of plastic, and focus on reducing, reusing and recycling in your everyday life!
